I like...
New ways of thinking in art and work/thoughts that create debate and give pleasure.
Causing trouble
Statement
I'm helping to organise an exhibition of top contemporary British new media work/short films in Damascus in early 2009. The exhibition is called 'flicker' and comprises a series of projections and films lighting up streets and venues as well as the more conventional exhibitions spaces in Damascis, staggered over a fortnight. I would like to encourage everyone to attend, and use the pieces as stimuli for debate on whatever subjects they evoke in you.
Research interests
I am interested in the development of artistic practice alongside political and economic changes and new ways of presenting art - hardware/software/theory
The project i'm working on at the moment is called 'flicker' (mentioned above) and there will be a meetings at the site of the projections/artworks that could perhaps be introduced by artists in Damascus.
Would you like to take part or lead in a disscussion about the piece on show?
Or perhaps go further to talk about art in non-gallery spaces in damascus/video art.....etc and go from there. The focus of the exhibition is to provoke a questioning of where art can be housed and exhibited and consequently, who will see it and who has 'ownership' of it - if anyone.
I think that the exhibition would only be a real success if it engages debate amongst the local community. It would be great to see this level of involvement.
Could anyone who is interested in leading a discussion for 5-10 mins or is interested in the project in general, please contact me.
There is also going to be an educational display of publications, dvds, and new media resources at the British Council offices in Damascus, for anyone who is interested in learning more about film/new media art (all levels are catered for)
