Last day in the Photo Museum of Rotterdam I met a researcher – collector – photographer who has extensively collected found photographs all over the world. But only albums. “Photos in context as I call them”. I thought was funny because in the morning I had been scanning two photo albums that I found in Mauer Park, Berlin last year. One of them came with photos inside, but the second one was empty. I was thinking in the non sense of a photo album empty where only the descriptions of the missing photos can be read, but not the photos. I think this black, almost hand made look like album came together with a pile of disorder photos inside when I bought it, but as far as I have checked, the photos don’t correspond to the album, neither in size, shape or content.

I have never bought a whole photo album of found photographs. It is just a question of value. Whole albums (“photos in context”) are normally expensive, and more treated like an antique, rather than a second hand almost rubbish thing. Single photos don’t have a high value as an object, they cost little money, and they are more likely to be found at flea markets grounds (no so often ad the whole albums). I think this economical circumstance is also very interesting to reflect on. Is possible to find whole photo albums in Syria? Does the concept of the photo album exist?

Thinking about albums, about the idea of the album itself. Of establishing an order, a chronology to images. “A context” to understand the images, place them in meaning, place them in time. Hierarchy system.
The single found photos are out in space, in time, no context, nothing.

I am thinking further in the idea of the album to develop it within the research for Reloading Images. Idea of order related to the photo album, idea of chaos related to the single found photo images…etc
Maybe to create new albums of single found photos, creating invented categories, memories? Maybe to pervert existing ones?

I just wanted to post my reflections here for feed back from the others.

hello guys, i have to apologize for my virtual absence in the last weeks, also for not replying to the assigment notes.
I have been so busy and also some familiar issues came up, completing eating myself.
I will come back the soonest I can to update my research topic and contribute to the different groups.

Thanks a lot for your comments ! I agree with you that it was nicer idea to send the photo to someone else to write about it.

Can we try again, a second round?

or maybe, I will just make it up as part of my research topic??

best wishes,

hugs
