HI Ashkan,
only just saw this - quite inspiring! I explore games as a "method" for my work. I haven't though about travel games yet! What makes a game a travel game? Is it only taken on journeys to kill time, or because it is small? WHy shut yoursel…
The Group is here for the preparation of the Workshop by UBERMORGEN.COM (lizvlx and Hans Bernhard) in Damaskus, end of September 2008. The workshop deals with the alternative use of mass media in Syria and in the rest of the world.
in what ways do systems of categorisations lead to polarizations ‐ like east/west, inclusion/exclusion, centre/periphery? Where are the points of transition?
currently working on "socio-political" games that throw up questions...
Profession
freelance artist / photographer
Artistic and professional experiences
I am working freelance in Berlin as artists and photographer and also reconstruct cities virtually.
Statement
My recent work evolves around a very broad exploration of games. I have become increasingly interested in games and how their interactive character influences the player. I also find that the connotation of games and the way they "function" offer a wide range of issues to investigate when put into context. Their simple principle of rules is also intriguing when used for complex issues.
I use a variety of media. Interactivity (in its broad sense) offers immersion and control and throws up a host of questions about the responsibility of actions in games and their social implications, as well as being an attempt to approach and address a so-called "fun society".
Research interests
I have so far produced work on terrorism, torture, media representation and immigration. I am looking to take this further and, having married a Syrian, am also interested in Middle Eastern culture.
